History

The Lutheran Congregation of Musser's Valley, in what is now Adams Township, Snyder County, PA was organized as early 1807(perhaps near 1800).  St. Henry's was first organized as a union church (Lutheran and Reformed) in 1811.  In 1878, when the Reverend W. R. Wieand and the Reverend A. Romig were servicing St. Henry's, the question arose as to whether the two congregations should jointly repair or rebuild the church or each build a church of its own.  At a subsequent meeting of the Lutheran Church Council, it was resolved to erect a new brick building in Troxelville for use by the General Synod Lutheran Congregation.  At that meeting, they elected Jacob Bingman, J. C. Moyer and J. W. Swartz to serve on a building committee to superintend the building of the proposed St. Luke's.  The cornerstone-laying services were held in June of 1879.  The building was fully completed on the 28th day of February 1880 and was dedicated to the worship of Almighty God on March 14, 1880.

In July of 1944, the approval of the union of St. Luke's and St. James congregations with the Beaver Charge was passed.  By September 1945, Name of Congregation Committee reported to the co-council that they had selected Messiah for the future name of the congregation.  Reverend Lee S. Deppen was pastor of Messiah during the merger proceedings.  A resolution was written to state that after January 1, 1946 the services of the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Troxelville, Pennsylvania shall be held in the brick building.  To continue use of both of these buildings was thought impractical.  As a solution, plans were drawn up for the dismantling and rebuilding of the St. James structure onto the rear of St. Luke's to form the present Messiah Sunday School room.

By December of 1945, Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church of Troxelville, PA had united with St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Beaver Spring and the Beavertown Lutheran Church in the formation of Beaver Pastoral Charge.  Shortly thereafter, there were parish alignment problems (synodical agitation for elimination of multi-congregational parishes) and, after seeking ways of alignment, Messiah Council voted to unite with St. John's Ridge Lutheran Church to form the Oak Run Parish in March of 1971.  Meanwhile, Beavertown Lutheran and St, Peter's Lutheran Churches built one church along Route 522, midway between Beavertown and Beaver Springs, and named it Beaver Lutheran Church.  The newly formed Oak Run Parish purchased a tract of land and built a new parsonage which was ready for occupancy in December, 1973.  In November of 2000, the Upper Susquehanna Synod Council approved dissolution of the Oak Run Parish.  In the same month, the parish's non-monetary assets were sold at public auction.

As we look to God for guidance and spiritual help along the way, may the future bring continued love, fellowship and understanding to the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church family
